Back to School for Your Car Too!

Back to School Road Sign with Dramatic Clouds and Sky.

Although it may still feel like summer time outside, back-to-school time is right around the corner. August is always a busy month for parents and kids. Parents are trying to squeeze in last minute vacations and the kids are wanting to play with their friends all day! One item that is not usually on the top of the to-do list when heading back to school is your vehicle maintenance. Whether you’re attending high school, heading back to college or you’re the chauffeur for your family, your vehicle is going to need a little TLC before heading back to school and work!

Keep Up with Basic Maintenance

Make sure to complete simple maintenance tasks like oil changes and tire rotations. Check all the fluid levels and top them off if necessary including brake fluid, transmission fluid and coolant. If you can’t remember the last time you changed your wiper blades, you might want to invest in some now before rain’s fall takes its toll. While these are simple, minimal maintenance items, they will extend the life of your vehicle and keep it functioning properly!

Check the Lights

This is a good time to get your kids involved in the preventive maintenance checklist review. Have him or her get in the car and turn on the headlights, turn signals and emergency flashing lights as you walk around the vehicle to make sure they are working. Check the brake lights by having him or her press the brake pedal, too. Vehicles can have many different types of bulbs and they have varying lifespans, according to Firestone. Inspect your vehicle regularly to ensure your lights are working properly.

Up-To-Date

Before your college-bound kiddo hits the road, make sure their vehicle has an up-to-date inspection sticker, car registration, driver’s license and an insurance card. At most colleges, these are the things your child will need in order to purchase a parking tag to be able to park on campus. This may be tedious to check and update, but these are vital things in order to send your child on the road to college!

Make sure to schedule a service appointment with one of our certified technicians that will be able to service your vehicle and get you back on the road! Doing routine maintenance on your vehicle will not only ensure your safety on the road, but it will also prolong the life of your vehicle!

5 Vehicle Tips for a Safe Summer Road Trip

5

Whether you are heading to the beach with friends, taking a road trip with your family, or commuting back and forth to work, it is important that your vehicle is ready and properly prepared for the summer months. That is why All Star Ford has compiled a list of vehicle tips to ensure that you will stay safe this summer!

Get your Vehicle Serviced

Before you get on the road, get your vehicle serviced. Regular maintenance such as oil changes, battery checked and tire rotations will go a long way towards preventing breakdowns. If your vehicle has not been serviced according to Ford’s recommendations, schedule a maintenance checkup with us right away! You can schedule a service appointment by clicking here!

Check your Tire Inflation

Proper tire inflation is always important for good gas mileage and safe tire wear. But in the summer months, it’s especially important to keep your tires running cool with the right amount of pressure to avoid a dangerous blowout. Use Ford’s recommendation found inside your driver’s door jamb to find out the proper level for your tire pressure. You should also visually inspect your tires for irregular wear, low tread, and other problems.

Avoid Overloading your Vehicle

If you’re headed out on a road trip, you may be ready to throw lots of luggage and gear on top and in the back. Be careful not to exceed your vehicle’s acceptable load limit. Check your driver door jamb to find out how much weight your vehicle can hold.

Avoid the Heat and Sun

Manage glare and heat. Keep sunglasses handy and use a sun shield beneath your windshield when parked to keep your car’s interior heat down. Also, you should never leave a child or a pet unattended in a vehicle. The summer sun can also dehydrate you during long roads trips so always travel with plenty of water!

Clean it Out!

Make sure your vehicle is cleaned out. The summer heat can melt or explode items in your vehicle that were once fine – until your car’s interior reaches triple digits! Disposable lighters, batteries, and aerosol cans can be a hazard in a hot car. You should also watch out for messy items like chocolate and crayons.

These are some great tips to remember if you are about to take a long road trip, or just for your daily commutes to work and doing errands! Summer time is a great chance to spend some much needed time with family and friends, but always remember these tips to stay safe this summer and you will be ready for any adventure thrown your way!
